Brevard County is experiencing a hotel building boom in what many see as a sign of strength in the local tourism market.
Multiple categories of tourists are boosting the demand for hotel rooms ― as well as for vacation rentals. That includes Port Canaveral cruise passengers, people coming to the area to watch a rocket launch, and families here for youth baseball and softball tournaments at the USSSA Space Coast Complex in Viera. Plus fans of the beaches and ecotourism experiences.
Employees of space and high-tech companies visiting the area on business also are contributing to increased demand for hotel rooms.
“Looks like we are in for a bit of a hotel building spree the next two years ― about 1,500 additional rooms, about a 14% increase, that will take us over 12,000 rooms,” said Peter Cranis, executive director of the Space Coast Office of Tourism. “Long term, it looks like the hotel industry is bullish on the Space Coast, with lots of projects being discussed for 2026 and 2027 as well.”
From now through the end of 2025, as many as 11 hotels could open in Brevard County, adding 1,369 rooms to the county’s array of hotel options. Additionally, a new 122-room Woodspring Suites hotel opened earlier this year in Rockledge.
According to data compiled by the hotel industry tracking firm STR, 10 more hotels with a total of more than 1,100 rooms could open during 2026.
Cape Canaveral has been a hotbed of activity for hotel construction in recent years, due in large part to the record-setting passenger counts at Port Canaveral, the world’s second-busiest cruise port.
Corey Runte, a vice president at Melbourne-based Certified General Contractors, which is a major builder of hotels locally, said Cape Canaveral’s proximity to the port, plus the more restrictive building height restrictions in nearby Cocoa Beach, are helping to trigger the hotel surge in Cape Canaveral. Five hotels have opened in Cape Canaveral in recent years, with two more scheduled to open in 2025.
Cranis said a recent survey, commissioned by the Space Coast Office of Tourism, found that 91% of the people who took cruises out of Port Canaveral stayed in the area, either before or after their cruise, for at least one night. That included 27% who said they stayed both before and after.
Port Canaveral CEO John Murray also mentioned the impact of the port on local tourism during a news conference last week at which he announced plans for a new cruise terminal.
“I’ve been at the port for eight years now. And, if my memory is correct, we had four hotels in the Cape Canaveral area” when he started, Murray said. “Right now, we’ve got two under construction,” and when they open, “that will total 11 — just in Cape Canaveral, right near the port.”
”

Runte noted that construction cost increases are starting to level off, which is a positive for hotel companies seeking to start new projects.
Cranis said this year’s projected seven hotel openings with a total of 926 rooms will be the largest count in Brevard since 2020, when nine hotels with a total of 1,057 rooms opened. If all goes according to schedule, the numbers will be even bigger in 2026, when 10 hotels with 1,104 rooms are scheduled to open.
“As we have seen, not every hotel in the pipeline report actually opens, and, often, the opening dates slide to future months and years,” Cranis said. “But it is interesting to think that we will have gone from over 9,000 rooms to over 13,000 rooms in a seven-year period” from 2020 through 2026, “certainly the most growth the travel industry in our area has seen in some time.”
As early as 2027, the 502-room Westin Cocoa Beach Resort & Spa is scheduled to open off State Road A1A. When it opens, the Westin will be Brevard County’s largest hotel, based on room count.
Disney and the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) have a deal.
It lays the groundwork for Disney’s expansion in central Florida, highlighted by the company’s $17 billion investment and the possibility of a fifth major theme park.
District leaders said the deal is intended to provide “significant capital improvements” within the district. The development agreement is good for 15 years.
“This is a great day in terms of certainty,” CFTOD Vice Chair Charbel Barakat said. In terms of economic development, I think the impact is going to be immeasurable.”
Jeff Vahle, president of Walt Disney World Resort, responded to the agreement’s approval with a statement to FOX 35 News.
“This new development agreement paves the way for us to invest billions of dollars in Walt Disney World Resort, supporting the growth of this global destination, fueling the Florida economy, and allowing us to deliver even more memorable and extraordinary experiences for our guests,” Vahle said.
Plans for development aren’t specific, but Disney could also build 2 more minor parks, expand hotel room capacity by more than 30% to roughly 53,000, and increase retail and restaurant space by 20%.
John Saccheri, a park blogger with BigFatPanda.com, said Disney’s framework for expansion fuels a battle with Universal Orlando for market share.
“I definitely think there’s a war, Saccheri said. “Don’t let anybody tell you there’s not. There’s definitely a nice fight going on.”
Universal’s Epic Universe is slated to open in the summer of 2025. The company also announced plans to use 1,300 acres.
“I think Disney has to respond in some way to that, so I do feel like we’re lucky,” Saccheri said. “We’re going to get bigger attractions. Hopefully, better attractions and better-quality attractions.”
An exact timeline for Disney’s expansion plans was not released.

New Luxury Condominiums Land in Satellite Beach
With much to see and do on the Space Coast, the area has emerged as a sought-after destination for those seeking a quintessential Florida lifestyle. However, decades of limited new developments have resulted in a scarcity of available inventory for ocean-view residences. Located across from Hightower Beach Park on A1A, Lumena Satellite Beach is providing a new take on luxury living by the sea that satisfies both the head and the heart.
The luxury condominium community not only addresses the rising demand for oceanfront living in the region, but also redefines affordability without compromising on quality. Lumena’s inaugural tower, boasting just 44 residences, is priced from just above $1 million, or $373 per square foot. The large, flow-through layouts span between 2,500 to 3,700 square feet, with two-to-four-bedroom residences and four- to five-bedroom penthouses available. From the introduction of renowned national retail and hospitality brands to new aquariums, the Space Coast is red hot with development. The compounding effects of the national migration to Florida as well as the birth of a new space race have created an explosion of development and economic activity in the area. Let’s explore Dave Berman’s coverage of this exciting time on the Space Coast.
A new shopping development is bringing some big chains to the area with its anchor store being the much beloved Whole Foods. Some other tenants will include Home Depot, Miller’s Ale House, Venetian Nail Spa, Another Broken Egg Cafe and more.
“It’s the best-received project in our history,” said Jeff Garrison, development partner of SJC Ventures, whose Atlanta-based company has worked on more than 60 mixed-use, grocery-anchored and multifamily projects throughout the Eastern United States. “It’s a much-needed service at the right time in a market that is exploding. The Space Coast is on fire. It’s a perfect fit.”
Coming along with the wave of commercial development comes a revolution in medical care for the area. The Space Coast will be receiving a new, state-of-the-art hospital to replace the Cape Canaveral Hospital built in 1962.
“The project includes the new 286,000-square-foot hospital; a four-deck parking garage plus surface parking; and central utility plant designed to ensure continuous power functions, even during tropical storms and hurricanes.”

Some local groups are also looking to expand the scope of their mission and services. Those familiar with the area know the Brevard Zoo is a landmark and a fascinating way to spend the day. The same team is now working to bring a 14-acre aquarium to the shores of the Banana River. With a focus on rescue efforts as well as education, the facility will be a delight for creatures of all origins and sizes.
“In addition to the beach-themed entrance complex, planned exhibits include a Manatee Critical Care Center and Habitat, Sea Turtle Care Complex, Shark Flats, Ray Encounter, Alligator Alley, Otter Run and a tarpon feeding experience.”
Another trend that’s been evident on the Space Coast has been the growing scene of high-end dining and entertainment. To complement this, Westin Hotels is poised to bring the biggest and most luxurious hotel the Space Coast has ever seen.
“The six-story Westin will have 502 rooms, conference facilities and other amenities, and would be considered Brevard County’s first “4½-star” upscale resort.”

For those who are just looking for a change in latitude, the late Jimmy Buffett’s Space Coast project is finally coming to life. Work has restarted on the much-anticipated Compass Landing by Margaritaville which will include a hotel, marina and more.
“Plans for the tropical-themed Melbourne Margaritaville include a seven-story hotel facing the Indian River Lagoon, a two-story restaurant building with 400 seats, a 221-slip marina, a 14,000-square-foot lawn with stage for concerts and events, a four-level parking garage and a public boardwalk.”

Amongst all of this exciting development stands Lumena. The only new construction condominium of the Space Coast, Lumena will bring an unprecedented level of luxury living to Satellite Beach with ocean views, a rooftop pool, and expansive residences ranging from 2,500 to over 5,500 sq. ft. This luxurious residential experience will prove to be the highlight of oceanfront living on the Space Coast for years to come. To learn more, register here for our brochure.

Witnessing a rocket launch is a bucket-list experience for many. The sonic boom and the vivid colors lighting up the sky as the rocket ascends into space is a true spectacle. Yet for residents of Florida’s Space Coast, it’s a common occurrence to see them blasting off into the sky. Industry giants including SpaceX, NASA, and ULA (United Launch Alliance) are sending up more rockets from the Space Coast than any other spaceport in the world, making it easier than ever to witness a rocket launch. The secret to catching any launch, however, lies in planning ahead for the perfect viewing spot. While Kennedy Space Center and Space View Park are popular choices for families, there’s a wide variety of other venues offering incredible views of the rocket’s colorful ascent. Let’s explore the hidden gems and unique adventures one can have in Satellite Beach and beyond.
NASA-Approved Viewing Parks
For those seeking a front-row seat to rocket launches, NASA has recommended several parks near the launch pads. Jetty Park, located south of the Kennedy Space Center, boasts a 1200-foot pier and a 4.5-acre beach, offering ample space for spectators to gather and witness the celestial event. Further north, Marina Park, adjacent to the Titusville Marina, spans 20.35 acres and provides various amenities like boat ramps, a dock, and recreational areas, strategically positioned for optimal views of Kennedy Space Center’s launches. William J. Manzo Memorial Park, a 2.48-acre spot along the Indian River, offers a family-friendly setting with shaded pathways, a riverfront boardwalk, and picnic facilities, making it an ideal spot for families to experience the thrill of a rocket launch.

Beaches That Double as Launchpads
The tranquil shores and soft beaches of the Space Coast offer a laid-back setting to combine rocket launch days with beach days. Playalinda Beach at Canaveral National Seashore has been a local favorite for over fifty years, placing visitors a mere five miles from the launch tower. Further south, Lori Wilson Park in Cocoa Beach provides a family-friendly beach area with pavilions, playgrounds, and barbecue facilities, catering to various outing preferences. For those who prefer a quieter scene without compromising on the view, Canova Beach Park and Pelican Beach Park further south offer serene alternatives. Remember to pack the essentials like food, water, and beach gear to make the most of the day.

Culinary Delights with Rocket Sights
For those seeking a dining experience that pairs perfectly with the anticipation of a rocket launch, the Space Coast has plenty of options. The Courtyard Titusville’s space-themed hotel hosts The Space Bar, a rooftop dining venue offering space-themed cocktails and a full menu, providing one of the closest views outside the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex. For a taste of island-style seafood and tropical libations, Grills Waterfront Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar in Port Canaveral delivers, along with live music to complement the anticipation of a rocket launch. Meanwhile, in Melbourne’s Eau Gallie Arts District, Pineapples stands out as a three-level venue, doubling as a restaurant, music venue, and rooftop bar. Indulge in craft cocktails, casual fare, and high-quality meats as you enjoy panoramic views of rockets soaring into the night sky.
Rocket Launches from the Indian River Lagoon
One of the more distinctive ways to witness a rocket launch is from the serene waters of the Indian River Lagoon. Eco-tour operators such as Cocoa Beach Dolphin Tours and DolFun Tours curate special experiences around these launches. Kayak tours provided by Fin Expeditions, A Day Away Kayak, and Cocoa Kayaking offer an unconventional yet captivating perspective. Even if the launch gets scrubbed, kayakers and paddleboarders can enjoy the natural beauty of one of the most biodiverse estuaries in the Northern Hemisphere.

A Private Vantage Point on Satellite Beach
Located opposite Hightower Beach Park on A1A Beach Boulevard, a new luxurious condominium community will offer an ideal viewpoint for rocket launches. Each of the 44 residences at Lumena will feature a private oceanfront terrace, providing an unparalleled view of these breathtaking spectacles. Whether savoring a morning coffee with the soothing sound of waves or sharing the anticipation of the evening spectacle with friends, residents can relish every moment from their own exclusive retreat.
Lumena’s spacious flow-through floorplans will offer two-bedroom/den, three- and four-bedroom floorplans with prices starting from just over $1 million. Every resident in the building will be spoiled with the unprecedented private rooftop amenity deck featuring a tropical pool and cabanas overlooking the ocean. Residents will also enjoy an ocean-view clubhouse, fitness center and a range of other resort-style amenities. A New Wave of Condominium Living in Satellite Beach
As the Space Coast continues to grow in popularity, the demand for oceanfront living is increasing even faster.
